Born in the South Bronx, Abigail Montes is a documentary and portrait photographer living in New York. She graduated from LaGuardia CC in 2002, beginning her career photographing portraits and weddings.
Since 2013, she has volunteered for a variety of nonprofit groups including Terra Firma, the Center Against Domestic Violence and the Bronx Documentary Center.
In 2016, she enrolled in the BFA Photography program at Saint John’s University. In March 2017 she was recognized by En Foco for her long-term documentary project My Beloved Bronx and included in The Next Generation of Bronx Photographers exhibition.
She is currently attending the Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism program at the International Center of Photography, while also employed as a Teaching Assistant with ICP at the Point CDC in the South Bronx.
